Woman killed near Las Vegas in 1989 identified, her children remain missing

The victim of a murder that occurred in 1989 has been identified, and now investigators are working to determine who killed her as well as what happened to her children after they vanished. On December 12, 1989, the body of a naked woman was discovered on Old Temple Bar Road in Mohave County, Arizona. This location is approximately 50 miles east of Las Vegas. She looked to have been stabbed multiple times, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s office. Despite the fact that the investigators’ attempts to identify her were fruitless, they were able to obtain a DNA profile.
In February of 2022, investigators got the woman’s fingerprints and sent them to NamUs, where the FBI found a match with a woman in Bakersfield, California called Maria Ortiz. During the subsequent investigation and after making contact with a family member whose DNA matched the sample from 1989, it was discovered that the woman’s real name was Marina Ramos and that she and her two daughters, Jasmin Maria Ramos, who was 2 months old at the time, and Elizabeth Lisa Ramos, who was 14 months old at the time, had vanished in 1989.

Her daughters and a Hispanic man who was only known by the name Fernando were with her when she was last seen in August of 1989 in Bakersfield. The four individuals were spotted leaving the scene in a black SUV and heading in the direction of Ontario, California, which was believed to be Fernando’s home.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person who goes by the name of Fernando. They are also looking for any information they can get their hands on regarding her daughters, who would be 34 and 33 years old respectively. \Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (928) 753-0753 extension 4408 as soon as possible.
