Tom McDonald Death, Obituary – Mr. Tom Heflin McDonald, age 91, passed away on Saturday, February 11th, 2023 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. Mr. McDonald was a resident of Valley, Alabama. T Tom McDonald was born in Shawmut, Alabama on November 10th, 1931. His parents, William Harvey McDonald and Eunice Moncus McDonald, have since passed away. He participated in the Joy club at Shawmut First Church of the Nazarene, where he was a very involved member of the congregation.
He was in the United States Army for nearly 24 years, serving during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. During his time in the military, he was stationed at a variety of different places. At Fort Polk, in Louisiana, he took his retirement from the Army. He fished all the time and spent a lot of time in his shop working on wood projects. His parents and five of his sisters—Annie Belle McDonald King, Euvara McDonald, Kate LeMerle McDonald Mezick, Mary Lois McDonald Hopkins, and Doris Crowder Lowe—preceded him in death.
He is survived by Sarah Waters McDonald, his wife of 72 years; sons Tom Gary McDonald and Tony Luther McDonald and their spouses Angela and Marsha; daughter Belinda McDonald Dean and her husband David; grandchildren Emily McDonald Scofield, Gavin David McDonald, Leslie McDonald Hewitt, Alex Levy McDonald, Wesley Chase Dean, and Hunter David Dean; great grandchildren Drake Hewitt, Luke Hewitt, and Timothy James Scofield; brothers Harvey Leon McDonald, William Roger McDonald and his spouse Ellen, and Bruce Jen.
The funeral services will be place at the Shawmut First Church of the Nazarene on Friday, February 17th, 2023 at 1:00 PM (EST). After the service, the burial will take place in Fairfax Cemetery. The ceremony will be presided over by Pastors Tim Campbell and Bonnye Campbell. The family of Tom will host a visitation for friends and family on Thursday evening at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM (EST).
