Tayvon Benjamin Obituary, Death – Tayvon Benjamin, a native of Marietta, Georgia, and a former member of the Delta State Statesmen, has died. On Saturday, February 18, 2023, he went suddenly at the age of 27, leaving his loved ones in shock and disbelief.
In a Facebook post announcing his passing, Jason Smith wrote, “With great grief and regret, and a heavy, heavy heart, I want to report that my oldest son Tayvon (27) passed away on Saturday.” It is unknown what caused his death.
He attended Delta State Statesmen after graduating from Harrison High School before pursuing his study at Lenoir-Rhyne University. As a rookie in 2014, he assisted the Statesmen in sharing the Great South Conference title and securing the eighth slot in the NCAA Division II playoffs. He played in eight games, stopping eight offenses individually while recording 16 total tackles. Against Concordia-Selma, he intercepted one pass, returning it for a 50-yard touchdown.
In 2015, his sophomore year, he appeared in nine games and started twice at safety for the Statesmen. When the season was done, he recorded 23 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one interception, four pass break-ups, and one recovered fumble. He made 15 of his 23 tackles in the final three games of the season. In addition, he returned a fumble for a touchdown against North Alabama that was 95 yards long.
Tayvon Benjamin was a fantastic person who was appreciated by all of his coaches and teammates in addition to being a superb athlete. They will always be infused with Tayvon’s history. He had a heart that blazed with such brilliance that nothing could ever match it. Since he was a little child, he has always been a lethal opponent on the football field because of his exceptional innate ability.
His skills include tackling, passing, shooting, and more. Those closest to him recognized his unflinching confidence and his tenacity in working toward his goals. He constantly exuded an atmosphere of boundless joy and contentment and was unparalleled in his warmth and concern for others.
