Shelia Rhodes Death, Obituary – Along with Rhodes and Shelia (Clemons), The fourth of June in 1953 and the thirteenth of February in 2023 Shelia Clemons was born and raised in Florence, the same city that was home to the childhoods of both of her parents, Hugh L. and Blanche.
She graduated from Waterloo High School, the place where she first met Joe Rhodes, the man with whom she would spend the rest of her life, and she grew up in the Rhodesville hamlet. Together, they would spend the remainder of their lives together. Joe and Shelia celebrated 50 years of marriage together as a couple on December 2nd, which was also their golden wedding anniversary.
After graduating from Shoals Community College with a nursing degree, she worked for a number of years in the field of obstetrics and gynecology nursing. She became a member of the St. James United Methodist Church and was one of the charter participants in the Circle of Hope when it was founded thirty years ago.
Some of the things that she came to value most in her life were the relationships of friendship that she cultivated with the other people in this group. Shelia had a lot of fun hanging around with her friends, engaging in creative pursuits, and traveling on exciting excursions. She didn’t engage in conversation with anyone she didn’t already know, which resulted in her having a big number of friends.
She was a wonderful wife and mother, but by the end of her life, she realized that being a grandmother was her true calling. Her grandkids were the source of the deepest joy in her life, and she had dedicated the previous 18 years of her life to being their most ardent advocate. Her father-in-law, her brother George Clemons, and her sister Jenny Shook all passed away.
Will Rhodes, the woman who is now her mother-in-law Lois Rhodes, who is her sister’s husband Ronnie Rhodes, her sister-in-law Shelia’s predecessors in death include her sister Brenda Rhodes and her niece Elizabeth Woods. Her parents, Hugh L. Clemons and Blanche Clemons, as well as her brother George Clemons and sister Jenny Shook, all passed away prior to her birth.
She is survived by her husband Joe Rhodes, daughter Emily Rhodes, son-in-law Will Powell, grandchildren Kate, Martha Caroline, and Benton Powell, brother-in-law Carl Rhodes (and his wife Sheila), nephews David Shook (and his wife Sharon), Gary Shook (and his wife Carol), David Rhodes, and Charles Woods, nieces Jessica Shook, Tonia Hanson (and her husband Tim), and Heather Hargett, and a special friend named Jackie May.
