Kai McGinley Shooting – Detectives investigating a homicide in south-east London believe the shooters responsible for the death of a 24-year-old man may have gotten away in one of several vehicles. On Thursday evening around 20:50 GMT, officers were dispatched to Pembroke Road in Erith after receiving reports of shots being fired in the area. The victim, identified as Kai McGinley, had a gunshot wound when police found him, and he passed away later.
The officers who are investigating the homicide believe that one or more vehicles were used to drive the perpetrators away, with at least one of the vehicles likely having damage from a collision. Det Ch Insp Chris Wood has requested the assistance of the general public for the Metropolitan Police Department. “Please get in touch with me if you have recently seen a vehicle that belonged to a friend or family member that was recently damaged, if you have seen one parked up or abandoned, or if you have been asked to repair one,” he said.
“I have a team of officers and staff working hard to establish what happened to Kai and why – if you saw what happened or have information that can help, I need you to get in touch and share what you know,” the captain said. “I have a team of officers and staff working hard to establish what happened to Kai and why.”
The police are particularly interested in learning more about a silver Land Rover Freelander with the license plate number GL52 HDO that was left behind at the scene. Residents of Southwark, where the victim, Mr. McGinley, was originally from, have expressed their shock and horror at the news of his shooting. Debbie Burton, a grandmother and a former educator who currently resides on Pembroke Road, shared the following statement:
“It’s just a sad and worrying thing to happen. Since I’ve been living on this street for the past 26 years, I can confidently say that nothing even remotely similar to this has ever taken place in Erith.” “Erith feels very safe, and I never would have thought that anything like this would happen here,” said another local woman who just recently moved into the area.
