John Mccoy Obituary, Death – John Jackson McCoy, who had been a resident of Hampton and had been born in Port Byron, Illinois, passed away at the Allure of Geneseo on Saturday, January 7, 2023. He had 86 years under his belt. At ten in the morning on Monday, January 16, 2023, the funeral will be held at the Gibson – Bode Funeral Home in Port Byron. The date and time have not yet been determined.
John Jackson McCoy was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on November 26, 1936. His parents were Earl Jackson and Mildred Vera (Johnson) McCoy. John was their son. His mother’s maiden name was Johnson, and he took it after her. On February 24, 1957, he wed Lorretta JoAnn Boyer, and this marked the beginning of the rest of his life together. John took great pride in his work as a farmer. In addition to that, he worked for John Deere for a period of time as a truck driver who was responsible for hauling goods throughout the country.
He held the position of Vice President of the UAW Local 79 for a considerable amount of time, which is a decent number of years. He has a history of coaching and has also been a member of the URICRA Board of Directors in the past. He was a consistent member of the congregation of the Countryside Christian Church, where he attended services. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his children, Chuck (Judy) McCoy of Rapids City, Chet McCoy of Port Byron (Tammie VanNatta), Cherrie (Craig) Seger of Oswego, Illinois, and Chad (Peggy) McCoy of Niles, Illinois; and his grandchildren.
