Mr. Ladd was introduced to the world on July 23, 1939, in Christian County, where he made his very first appearance. Before their son was born, both of his parents, John Frieland Ladd and Lillie Mae Hopson Ladd, had passed away. He was the only child they had. He was given the same name as his father. Both of his parents had already passed away long before he was even brought into the world. He did not have any siblings.

After many years of service with Hopkinsville Electric System, Furman decided to retire and look for new opportunities elsewhere. In addition to the fact that he was a founder member of that church, he also served as an elder at the Millbrooke Christian Church for a significant portion of the time that he was a member of that congregation.

His name has been given to the congregation. Nina Mae Mann, his sister, had already passed away before to him, and as a result, she was no longer living when he did. She had died before he did. She was the only living member of his immediate family, and she was also the only person who could be considered his relative. He had lost all of his other relatives throughout the years.

His children and their significant others, including his son John Christopher “Chris” Ladd of Hopkinsville and his girlfriend Nikki Brinnon of Hopkinsville, his daughter Jo Ellen Ladd Hageman and her husband Darryl of Hopkinsville, his sister Teresa Lynn Porter and her husband Raphael of Clarksville, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Joshua Glen Hageman, Justin Ryan Hageman and his wife Ellie.
