Joanne Nagurny Death, Obituary – It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our mother, Joanne McCollum Nagurny, passed away in a calm and peaceful manner on the morning of February 25, 2023. This information was shared with us by our father. Joanne was admitted to the hospital for treatment of a series of strokes beginning on the 2nd of February. In spite of the fact that there were early signs that her prognosis was good, she was ultimately unable to recover from her condition. Despite everything that had happened to her, she never stopped being the courageous and independent woman she had always been; she was also known for having a huge heart and a wicked sense of humor. She was able to make a difference in the lives of a great number of people by providing insightful comments, an attentive ear, and genuine concern for whoever she was assisting at the time.
Everyone who interacted with her, whether it was a student, a coworker, a member of her family, or a friend, emerged a better version of themselves as a direct result of the time spent with her. This held true regardless of the relationship they had with her. She did not squander a single second in maximizing the potential of each and every moment and working toward the accomplishment of the objectives she had set for herself in life. We had only just recently returned home from a holiday trip to Poland and Hungary, where we had celebrated Christmas and the New Year, respectively, in those countries. When we were strolling through the streets of Warsaw, it was difficult for us to keep up with Joanne because she walked between 5 and 7 miles every day. Even if we lived for many more decades, it still wouldn’t be enough time to experience all of the wonderful moments that we have stored away in our memories.
