Joan Borcherdt Obituary, Death – It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I report the untimely passing of our dear friend Joan Bishop Borcherdt, 80, who passed away peacefully Monday, February 20, 2023 at Westgate Nursing Home in Ironwood, Michigan. Her passing came as a complete surprise to all who knew and loved her. The news of her passing came as a total shock to everyone who had known and cared about her.
Joan had spent a sizeable portion of her life in Mercer, which is located in the state of Wisconsin. The very first place that Mrs. Borcherdt called home was in the Highland Park community located in the state of Illinois. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona, where she studied and received her education, in the year 1965.
Her high school graduation took place in the year 1961, and it took place at Wayland Academy, which was located in the city of Beaver Dam in the state of Wisconsin. Chappaqua, New York was her place of employment during the years leading up to her first meeting with Douglas Pegg Borcherdt, the man who would go on to become the love of her life. During those years, she worked as a fifth grade teacher.
In the midst of all of this, in 1977, she tied the knot, and today she is a mother to two children of her own. She served on the Board of Directors of the Historic Ironwood Theatre for a considerable amount of time, and during that period, she devoted every ounce of her energy to the process of restoring the theater. During this time, she was also deeply invested in the preservation of the theater.
Joan found pleasure in a wide variety of pursuits, including reading, going on adventures, and hosting parties. These were some of her favorite things to do. The only surviving members of Joan’s family are her devoted nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as her husband, Doug. Joan was the only member of her family to have predeceased her husband.
