Janna Gatten Death, Obituary – One of our officers has passed away after a long and courageous battle against cancer, and the Henderson Police Department is inconsolably upset to have to break the news to the community. Officer Janna Gatten passed away at 6:55 a.m. on February 13, 2023, having fought a valiant battle against cancer. Officer Janna Gatten was hired for the post in August of 1999 and started working for the Henderson Police Department shortly thereafter.
During her career with the police department, Janna served in a variety of capacities, including as a Corporal, Training Officer, Member of the Hostage Negotiation Team, and Defensive Driving Instructor. She also served as an instructor for defensive driving. Janna also possessed a certification as a National Citizens Academy Coordinator and was actively involved in the process of managing Citizen’s Academy seminars given at the Henderson Police Department.
This was in addition to the fact that she held the previous qualification. Janna hung up her badge and resigned from the Henderson Police Department in September 2019, marking the end of her career there. In May of 2020, Janna was informed that she had colon cancer after undergoing testing. Because of the treatment that Janna had, her condition has significantly improved.
Janna was rehired by the Henderson Police Department as a patrol officer in May of 2022, putting her back in the role she had had previously. Not long after Janna had returned to her home, she was given the news that her cancer had spread once more. She waged a ferocious battle against the cancer and drew attention to the underlying issue.
Janna was one of those persons that seemed to always have a smile on their face. Janna was driven by a strong desire to help people, and she dedicated her life to serving the residents of Henderson, which she considered to be her community. During this trying time, the Henderson Police Department would like to offer its most sincere condolences to her family. We are sorry for the loss of a loved one. Many people will think warmly of Janna in the years to come.
