Gene Moimoi Young Suicide – On February 8, 2023, Gene Moimoi, who was 75 years old and lived in Luling, Texas, passed away. Gene Alley Brown was born in Eagle Pass, Texas on November 26, 1947. His parents were Naomi Lee (Cox) Brown and Robert Alley Brown. Gene married Christine Doerfler Boemer on April 14, 1978. Caleb, who also lives in Austin, Robert Aaron, who is married to Katy and lives in Dania Beach, Florida, and Adam, who is married to Amanda McArdle.
Together with their son Robert and his wife Katy, they are the proud grandparents of two grandchildren named Van Law and Viara. Gene spent his childhood in Eagle Pass and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Texas A&I University in Kingsville in 1969. During the years 1969 to 2006, he taught Agriculture, Ag Mechanics, and Welding in the following locations: Runge, San Antonio, Floresville, Seguin, Luling, and Stockdale. In addition, he was an FFA adviser. Throughout his life, Gene battled and conquered a number of major health conditions.
Gene devoted his entire life to mentoring young people, including his own three boys and other children. He spent his spare time helping his kids and students with the livestock projects they were working on, coaching youth baseball, basketball, and soccer, and instructing hunter safety classes. Gene was a very involved member of the Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday School, served as President of the Church Council, and participated in a number of different committees. In addition to that, he was a member of the Luling ISD school board.
Gene’s parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Rosa Lee Doerfler, and his sister-in-law Barbara Brown all passed away before him (Neil). He is survived by his wife, sons, grandchildren, brother Neil Brown, sister Bobbie Tate (Ben), sisters-in-law Kathy Pancoast (Elliot), Ruth Hanna, Valerie Doerfler, brother-in-law David Doerfler (Cindy), and a large number of nieces and nephews.
